LAST NUCLEAR BOMB MEMORIAL
IN EKKER, ALGERIA, AFRICA
The design of this memorial was driven by the inspiration of an underground sequence of space and the relation to the nature of nuclear bomb testing. Located near an abandoned historical testing site, you approach the project and enter underground, proceeding through the galleries, a theatre and residential units, until reaching the final destination, the observation tower. This space places the focuses on the history of the site and showcasing the impact of nuclear testing from a safe distance. The project had a strong focus on the addition and subtraction of light and views through exposed rock walls, dark interiors, skylights, and the monumental observation tower view of the mountain.
This project was designed in collaboration with two group members at the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design.
